"Not usually."
Xaver gave a cashere grin.
"Then, I usually don't go about interfering with other peoples' business."
He let his hand drop from hers, though his hormones screamed in horrified protest, and the chill that replaced her warmth on his palm was deterringly empty. She shook his head, and turned slightly, putting his back to the club, and gathering a view of the eternally crowded, and loud street. Shaking away both his mental frustrations, and her comment.
"You owe me nothing."
Xaver eyed her curiously, his gaze ever-penetrating, and taking in the little details. Like the way her hair curled about her forehead slightly, in a damp sweat from the heat of the club. And the way his jacket made her look almost tinny. Reminding him of just indeed, how fragile she was. She was Human, after all. He was very much a wolf, and she could very well have been the sheep. Though, the color of her wool wasn't as apparent as the blood in her veins, or the fire in her gaze.
"But perhaps an explanation would suffice, if you're so intent on giving?"
A raven eyebrow arched.
"Why were you in the Metro at all? You aren't a Pro. You just aren't the type.. And yet you were willing to do it?" And possibly him?
His insides turned angrily at the thought, though he quickly suppressed his thoughts.

"And yet you were willing to do it?"
Ginny froze, crossing her arms defensively. She frowned, looking away from him, out into the street. She shivered as she tried to think of a good enough lie.
She gave up on that. What did it matter anyway?
"I wasn't willing." She glanced at him, doubting he'd want her to explain that. But she did anyway.
"I was kinda forced into it. By this guy..." She scowled, "I didn't want to. But, he said if I could get the guy out the door, he'd take care of the rest."
She leaned back against the building, pulling his jacket tighter around her. It was cold out. "I told him it wouldn't work."

"I wasn't willing."
Xaver blinked at her. It was the last thing he'd expected to hear, really. Not the usual because answer, anyway.
Xaver was silent for a long moment, watching her with his calculating gaze, before a halfish grin tipped a corner of his mouth. The amusement, was only partially there. Partially hidden.
Though, his curiosity was whole.
She was fascinating. In a weird, frustrating sort of way.
"Well, technically, you did get a man out the door. Even if it wasn't who you expected."
As his amusement abided, Xaver's gaze became all the more intent.
"So I suppose the next step, is up to you."

Ginny twisted her hands, realizing how empty the one felt now that he was no longer holding it. He pointed out the technicality and she had to agree with him She happened to look up at him when he half grinned. She stared at him. He hardly even smiled, was hardly showing any amusement at all. But it was more real than any she had encountered in months past.
"..the next step, is up to you."
Ginny smiled back, slightly. It was up to her. Larus's little narks would only be able to say what happened inside the Metro. For all that jerk would know, there was a fight and the jump was off. Because she'd been taken by someone else. Someone none of them would be able to even have a chance against.
But what would happen when Larus found out about all this? Her smiled faded. It would be worse than him slapping her a few times and caging up her cat. She inspected the ground, as if it held all the answers to her complex questions.
"Would you mind walking me a couple blocks over?"
She'd catch a cab, go back to the apartment. If she hurried, she could get there before Larus and explain. She rubbed her side, just below her rib, thinking of the last time she had tried to explain her misbehavior to him.
"I mean, you don't have to." She hesitated. He didn't owe her anything. She owed him. Just like she owed Larus. No, he wasn't like Larus. She knew that. He was different. He wouldn't hold it over her.
"But, I'd appreciate it." She sought for something to get him to agree. Anything. She didn't feel like walking alone.
"Please?"
She didn't even know this guy's name.

Xaver eyed her, both curiously, and warily, for a long moment. His dark gaze searched her, his handsome features stony but his ocean blue orbs windows to his ever-calculating soul, flickering over her face and trying to read her, for all intents and purposes.
Then, after a breath.. "I would not mind." His tones were low, and mild. Almost gentle, though the beast within him twitched nervously.
He turned slightly and offered her his arm, nodding his head once, slowly, in both acceptance and proposal in one.
Not a man of too many words, with strangers, he simply accepted the fact that her nervousness more than likely stemmed from his performance in the club. It mattered little in the long run, he supposed.
"Where is the place of your destination? Maybe I know it?"
He probably didn't, given he didn't take to roaming the streets in this part of town much anymore, but it was worth a try. And, after all, perhaps it would unveil another layer of the redheaded beauty - What was her name?!
"I'm Xaver, by the way."
He flashed a rare grin, lips pulling back to reveal even rows of healthy, pearly whites.
"And I believe I've forgotten my manners."
The chuckle that reverberated through parted lips was all wicked amusement, despite his own shock, at the sound of it, his own laugh a rather foreign thing even to his own ears.
Xaver chanced a glance down at her.
"Forgive me?"

Ginny let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding when he agreed and smiled back. Tentatively, almost as if the smile would run. More often than not, her smiles were fake. Only there to keep the questions away.
"I'm Xaver, by the way."
She nodded, silently forming his name with her mouth to remember it all the more easier. Not that it was a common name.
"Forgive me?"
"I'm Ginny." She answered back, "And I don't blame you for forgetting your manners."
She wrapped her arm around his, strangely taking comfort in his chuckle. Still smiling, she shook her head slowly.
"After all, I did just almost pull you into an all out brawl. Anyone would forget their manners."
Ginny was avoiding his question of where she was headed. If she could avoid it, she didn't want to think about Larus or his apartment. Not thinking about him usually made it all a bit easier.
Besides, if she could avoid thinking of Larus, she could pretend he didn't exist. And maybe, possibly, she could actually have a real conversation with someone. Possibly, she wouldn't feel like the terrified rabbit she so often seemed like.

Xaver's ocean blue eyes followed her, as sharp and watchful as a wary animals, catching the fluid movement of her mouth as she soundlessly repeated his name. His gaze slithered slowly up the slender length of her face and met her eyes with a newfound curiosity - searching. However, her thoughts were blank.
To him, anyway.
There was a sort of flat surface where her thoughts should have been - a barrier, a natural-born shield, that could effectively keep the likes of him and any others out of her head.
He could only sense her more prominent emotions, and read whatever expressions she gave him. She was, in many means, blocked off to him... Which sparked the flame of a curiousness he knew had no bounds.
"I'm Ginny."
A corner of his mouth quivered, tipping his lips into a light, lopsided smile, and he nodded, once, as she took his arm, in his own old-fashioned way of greeting.
He simply started walking - having little concern, and leaving it up to the little redhead to nudge them in the right direction.
"Actually, you nearly ran me into the floor. His smile was as easily warm as it was filtered.
"It was I, who chose to act."
He passed her a wink that could have meant anything, the little emotion that pressed into the handsome contours of his face giving away nothing.
"Perhaps most would have forgotten them. But I believe your definition of most, and mine, are not one in the same."

"I AM sorry for that, by the way." She was referring to almost running him over.
"Though, it can be said I wasn't exactly watching where I was going." Ginny grinned at him, shrugging one shoulder. His wink set off a small giggle, not nervous, more like slightly embarrassed.
"And what would be your definition of most be?"
She was curious about this guy. He seemed vastly different than most males she knew. They were usually ruthless, mean, and nasty. Xaver was polite, kind, and had helped her. She liked him, to say the least.
Ginny got the feeling that he wasn't human. Maybe it was the way he looked around, always paying attention. Maybe it was the way he walked, always ready to spring into action. But she'd never met a non like him before. He wasn't a wolf, she didn't think. Or a vamp. Although, he was certainly pale enough.
"You don't have to answer that, Xaver." She said his name, smiling as she did so. She liked the way it sounded.

"And what would be your definition of most be?"
Xaver's small smile was off-kilter, and mostly to himself. His definition? Of most people, this world to him seemed shallow and far too loosely based. People hurt, people cursed, and people killed. All people - meaning Humans, and Nonhumans, alike.
"I think that most of us are... lost."
His pause was distinctly thoughtful, as they walked idly together down the wet and unforgiving concrete. He waved his free hand, motioning the city that was very alive around them, humming with vehicles, sirens, and soft, fading laughter.
"Lost in the worlds we know, and apart from what really is. We forget that no matter what we create, there will only be what has always been. All of us, the earth, the atomosphere.. I think we've forgotten what we are."
He glanced at Ginny, his head tilting to the side slightly as his dark, liquid gaze fell over her.
"What do you see when you view these streets?"
[blegghh. sorry it's so short. =/ Getting there!]

"... I think we've forgotten what we are."
She understood that sentiment. There were so many beings, so many races. Everyone was classified, categorized. Everyone forgot what they all were, which was life. Ginny was silent as she thought about the words Xaver spoke.
"What do you see when you view these streets?"
Still silent another moment, she looked about her. What did she see? She was still young, she sometimes saw the world through a child's eyes still. And yet, she wore the thick glasses of fear over her eyes. Everything she did, everything she said was carefully thought about before hand. She had to be careful. Acting without thinking got her into trouble. But thinking before acting was against her nature.
"I see...I see the way we control one another. By words, or looks, or fists. No one is really in control of themselves. Everything we do...it's all because someone else wants us to do it. Or we want to do it because of someone else."
Her words, having come out hesitantly grew faster, "It isn't fair. Always watching what you say, what you do. All because you don't want someone to get upset. You can never be yourself. Always changing depending on another's moods, just to make sure you don't get hit-" Ginny sucked in her breath, catching herself.
Shut up. Calm down. Watch what you say. She concentrated on her breathing, repeating this manta to herself. She needed to shut up. She had to calm down. And she should watch what she said. her cheeks burned with slight embarrassment, she was mortified he would read into her words. Would see the truth behind them.
"I see fear." Ginny said simply, watching straight ahead as they walked.
[S'okay sweetie. I lovvve you.]

Xaver had not lived so long being oblivious to subtilities.
The little things, he figured, were always bigger than were ever given credit. Larger matters, like war and death and conflict.. They were ever present. But little things - hints, expressions.. They were fluctuations in a wall of character. They were a change to the norm.
They were alive.
He caught her sudden discomfort, as the dark oceans of his eyes hovered over her. His eyes remained fixed, but the rest of his form never fell out of step. His stride never fell out of grace, his shoes never catching an odd curvature or object upon the concrete. He walked as easily and soundlessly as if he were watching his step very closely, instead of not at all, completely aware through other senses, all that was around him. Them..
His expression, the handsome, unforgiving angles of his face, gave away little as he glanced at her eyes.
"As do I."

She flashed him a look, as if to see if he had caught her words. She saw nothing in his expression, but his eyes. Something about his eyes. Xaver was so different. But she wasn't scared.
Ginny gave a nod, "Really, there's the broader fear...humans are afraid of the nons, and I think some nons are afraid of the humans. I wouldn't know though. I haven't talked to many." She gave a shrug. It wasn't because she feared the nonhumans. The vampires and weres and all else. Larus was scared silly of them. So she had never been allowed near them.
"There's also the fears that everyone has. Losing someone they car about. Losing themselves." She shook her head, causing her red hair to tumble about. "Did you know that the number one fear for all of us is public speaking? Most would rather die than give a speech...isn't that crazy?"
