The nurse in the ER had seen a great many disturbing sights. People came in shot, stabbed, slashed, and basically dying. She had long ago abandoned a weak stomach. But her emotions came back often whenever she saw something extraordinarily sad. Such as this night, when the pretty red haired girl limped into the buzzing ER, her face bruised her arm held tenderly against her. It wasn't the injuries that touched the nurses' heart, but rather the look of intense fear in the woman's eyes. She looked terrified, ready to sprint at the slightest chance.
The nurse watched as the red head signed in and sat down, curling into herself while she waited her turn. The nurse shook her head, the woman was obviously some victim of some sort. Domestic abuse most likely.
Ginny sat in her seat, clenching her teeth against the pain in her arm. She shouldn't have tried to run, then he wouldn't have grabbed her arm and whipped her around. She should have just stood there and let him scream. But she couldn't take it anymore. His voice had seemed so loud, and she just had to get away.
She shook her head slowly, she had to find a way to get away, but she afraid he'd follow her. He always claimed that he could find even a rat in this city, that he knew every dark little hiding space and that she'd better not run or he would find her. She shuddered as she thought of Larus.
But not all men were like him. She flashed back to a few weeks ago, the dark haired man with blue eyes who had treated her so nicely. Sadly, she had seen one of Larus's men coming, and she'd had to run off before the guy saw her with Xaver. Larus would have had a fit.

"Excuse me..." Allie wandered in, and to the front desk, "Where do I go to wait?" he asked sheepishly as he signed in. He had a nice gash on his face, not even bandaged, a number of random bruises, and a limp in his right leg. Another nurse, an older woman, raised an eyebrow at him, "Pick a chair," she said, pointing towards the designated waiting area. "Thank you," Alec nodded. He limped over to the seating, sitting across from a pretty redheaded woman. He glanced up, looking at her. She's pretty, Alec noted; and she was. But something was wrong. He took a long moment, then realized that she was frightened. In fact, he glanced around, a lot of the people in this place were. People in hospitals were often afraid....he remembered being scared to death in a hospital, years before. Maybe I should be scared now, he wondered. He'd gotten the crap beaten out of him pretty badly, and he was scared...but he was even more frightened to show his fear. Nonetheless, he did what his father would do, and leaned forward a few inches, "Excuse me, miss? Are you alright?"

Xaver hated hospitals. They were a dead last resort for the Fallen prince.. quite literally, actually. He'd determined long ago he would be in a zipped-up black bag the day he would enter one willingly. That as it was, the automatic doors whizzed open, spilling costly heated air into the frozen night as he slowly stepped inside. His tall, lean form was clad in dark jeans and shoes, and a heavy black trench coat that buttoned down over his wide, powerful chest and trailed down to his calves. His raven hair was its usual mess of silken tresses, and a shadow of similar colored scruff shadowed the angles of his handsome face, hardening them.
A single oddity about him was reflected well in the ferocious blues of his gaze, flickering about the strange and smelly hospital. A small, pale hand was tucked into one of his larger ones, a small child on the end of it looking worse for wear. She wore thin, dapper clothing and unsettling brown eyes that never left the floor. She huddled close to his leg as they made way to the receptionist.
Xaver had found her in a puddle near his apartment. After waking the poor child and helping her to dry, Xaver had taken her here, for he knew no other place a human child could be left safely.
Talking to the nurse in low, mellow tones, Xaver suddenly found himself looking around. A familiar smell touched his sensitive nose, and sparked interest. Ginny?... As the woman began talking to the child and as he bent at the waist and gave a smiling good-bye, Xaver's mind was tracing the hospital. As soon as the girl was beyond the corner, Xaver whirled and nosed around the opposite corner of the room, eyes trickling over the waiting room and falling over the red-headed beauty that had kept him awake for so many a night.
Xaver moved to her slowly, his gaze wholly taking in her injuries and his own heart hammering a bruise into the underside of his chest. Her face... her arm... He all but ignored the boy to her side, and sank to one knee in front of her, his blue eyes ablaze with what his mouth could not say. She looked to be in such pain..

"Are you alright?"
Ginny looked at the boy leaning towards her, her mouth dry and unable to form words. She had been about to answer when, from nowhere, Xaver was beside her, his blue eyes looking at her in worry.
Shit, she had not wanted him to see this.
She looked at the boy, giving him a painful smile, "I'm fine."
Next, she addressed Xaver, her eyes lingering on his. "Hey."

"Hey," was all she said.
The dark oceans of his eyes didn't miss a detail. Roaming slowly from the topmost hair of her head to what he could see of her body, he caught the underlying torrent of pain she was trying to hide from him.
It was because she was hiding it so hard, Xaver held back the words and expressions that bordered to closely to the edge of his tongue. It was his eyes that gave him away, aflame with both anger and concern.
"Your pain is so strong.." Xaver could feel it, building like an odd pressure in his chest. He was sensitive to things such as emotions, and feelings, if he let them through the barriers around his thoughts and soul. Feelings beyond his own.. hers, hit him easier than he had expected. "I want only to fix it."
He gave a very small, tender smile, fingers rising to brush a fallen strand of gloriously red hair behind her ear, careful to keep the feather-soft caress from her bruised cheek.

"I'm okay."
She insisted, for some reason feeling slightly angry. She was a grown up, after all. She'd been hurt worse before. She didn't even feel the bruise on her face. She wouldn't be here if she could fix a broken arm herself.
"Really."

Alec's eyes had drifted to the newcomer, and he immediately shivered and backed a few inches away from the pretty redhead. He felt strangely out of place, now. As if he didn't exist-- these two people were the only ones in the room, almost. He listened to their short exchange, noticing a shift in the atmosphere. The woman seemed annoyed at the man's inquiry... they clearly knew one another, but not enough that she wanted him involved. He would have liked to interfere, should this man insist on bugging her, but he'd wait it out. After all, it wasn't his business, but she was a lady.

Xaver nodded and withdrew his hand, rocking back onto his heels. She neither wanted his help nor would she take it, which he understood and begrudgingly accepted. He was the same way, after all, so who was he to judge or intrude?
The bruise across the side of her face kept him from rising and giving her solace with the boy at her side. At the thought, Xaver's dark oceans flickered to the male form so near them. A shifter, he could sense, but not which kind. Instinct had him bristling, but a good sense of morality kept his demeanor cool and his soul patient.
Gaze shifting back to Ginny, Xaver's eyes softened slightly. His mouth opened to speak, when a nurse spoke behind his large, crouching form.
"Ready, dear?"

"Which one of us?" Ginny asked with an almost sarcastic tone. They had names, after all. 'Dear' could mean any of the three sitting in such close proximity.
"Nonetheless, I am ready. I just want to get out of here." She looked at the kid who had asked if she was ok.
"Do you mind?"
She purposely avoided Xaver's gaze. She was a grown up, she could take care of herself. She'd been doing it for years. One stupid broken arm wasn't going to be the end of her.

"Do you mind?"
Xaver closed his eyes for a moment and sighed, cursing the entire situation. As he opened them, his dark blue gaze rested on her pretty eyes with a sudden ferocity.
"I do, actually," he said to her as he rose, uncurling to the tall man that he was. A sudden glint in his eyes, however, softened the intimidating demeanor of his powerful form.
His mouth quirked in gentle amusement and he offered her his hand to help her rise.

Ginny looked at the boy sitting across from her and gave him one last smile. He was young and alone, but not afraid. A tough kid, like she had been once.
"Bye," she said to the kid, taking Xaver's hand and standing. The nurse nodded, motioning for Ginny to follow her. Ginny knew by Xaver's face that he was going to hover around until he knew she was alright, so she didn't let go of his hand as she followed the nurse.
"Why are you here?" She asked Xaver in a low voice as they followed the nurse through a series of hallways to the exam room.

She placed her hand in his and Xaver gave it a reassuring squeeze as she stabilized, his fingers falling to graze the small of her back and gently guide her behind the nurse. He knew he was hovering. Much like the bird he was, he was following the protective urge that had flooded his senses from the first moment he had caught her scent in that hospital.
As she questioned why he was there, Xaver smiled halfishly. Their steps ringing loudly in the hallway that became more silent as they proceeded, his shoulders tightened slightly. Xaver hated hospitals, and this soul-filled prison was no exception.
"This is a harsh city. Maybe I was needing help, myself?" he answered coyly, arching a raven brow down at her almost inquisitively as he said it. "When I sensed you, however, that became more interesting."
Xaver gave a small, reserved smile as they were led into the exam room.

Ginny gave him a half smile back, noting his tension. It interested her how interested he was in her. She let go of his hand and sat n the exam table, now giving her attention to the nurse while she answered stupid, obvious questions.
Name, age, weight, allergies.
"How did you hurt your arm?" The nurse asked, looking at Ginny.
With a straight face, Ginny lied, "I dropped my keys while running up my steps, turned to get them and tripped. Hit my arm on the rail."

Xaver gave Ginny space as she settled onto the table, taking a few steps back and more or less sinking into the wall at her side as she began answering questions. The shadows were almost at attention to his handsome form, playing teasingly with his finely honed, very male silhouette. When the nurse asked Ginny about what had caused this whole mess, Xaver's blue gaze fixed on the pretty redhead as well. He found that he wasn't even notably surprised when she lied to the nurse. He knew as she formed the words that she was being untruthful, though it wasn't because he had not kept his thoughts and talents to himself - for he in his years had strengthened the ability to read others and delve into their minds. As he had aged, his talents had grown, and there were few that could compete with the par that Xaver lived each day. Even with all these strengths, however, Ginny was immune to him. Mind-blind, they called it. She was invisible beneath his mental radar, so to speak. No, it wasn't his talent for being a spider on the wall of peoples' brains that sensed that she was lying, it was a sense in his gut. Somewhere, within the confines of his chest, he found the hard face she was giving to the nurse and the words that fell out of her pretty mouth were untruthful.. Which bothered him, though he knew there would be no prying at her until the strange nurse was long gone.
In the end Xaver said nothing, though his gaze remained on Ginny with an intensity that foretold he knew better.

The nurse peered at Ginny for a long moment, trying to decide if the girl was lying or telling the truth. She was having a hard time of it, for Ginny kept her face still, meeting the nurses' eyes. She was lying through her teeth. The break wasn't even the kind you got from hitting off of something, but rather the kind you got from twisting and pulling. The nurse had to know that. The nurse gave a nod. "A doctor will be in to set your arm and put a cast on it."
Ginny scowled, suddenly very angry, "I don't want a cast."
The nurse blinked, "But you need one,or your arm won't heal properly."
"I don't want a cast."
The nurse stared at Ginny for another moment before making a note and leaving. Ginny still had a scowl on her face when she looked at Xaver.
"I hate nurses. Uppity bitches."
