Relax, Sam. She though to herself, closing her eyes. The air smelled wonderful, and she breathed it in with deep breaths. It`s really nice out here.
Samantha was leaning against a large, moss-covered tree with her hands shoved into her pockets. Her golden hair was curling around her face, and a set of black ear muffs kept her ears from freezing off. Her breath clouded in front of her, quickly chilling to the temperature of the air. It wasn`t often that Death got to enjoy a day of, and now she got a whole week.
It wasn`t complicated, really. Sam killed crazy beings for a living, and she used to get off four days a month. It had been a two years yesterday that she had worked for the government, in their completely secret organization. So she had ungraded to a week. Sam had been ecstatic. Now she didn`t know what to do with all of her free time. She had been everywhere with work, had seen everything. Except this forest. That`s why she was standing out in the middle of the forest in the freezing cold.
Sam shivered violently once and snuggled into her coat a little more. The sound of the river was slightly distant, but she knew that if she opened her eyes and turned around she would be able to see part of it. Everything seemed far away. Remote. It made her feel alone.
Alone. She thought the word, letting its emptiness sink in. She was alone, really. No family. No pets. No friends. The only person she could really call a friend was Kelly, and she only saw her maybe twice a year. And Kelly lived in the next state over. No boyfriend.
Death wondered about that last one for a while. she hadn`t had a boyfriend in two years. Not since she started working as an assassin. That seemed like a long time to be alone. Especially when you killed people for a living.

David had smelled the girl from miles away. The cold wind blew her scent directly into him, stopping him from changing.David had a complex about changing whenever humans were nearby, mostly because he always wanted to make conversation with them and that was a little hard when barks and yips weren't considered part of any human language.
For a wolf, David was shy. By all human aspects, this wasn't at all how he seemed. But wolfs were social by nature, after all they resided in packs. They loved company of all sorts, and David sometimes just liked to be alone. Nonetheless, he did like girls.
He made his way towards the smell, surprised to find the girl still there when he arrived. Human, no doubt. There wasn't the dead smell of a vampire, nor the wild smell of a were. But she did smell good. Full of life and vitality. He stood at the edge of the clearing, his hands in his coat pockets, watching the girl. She was pretty, young...damn, this wasn't the time nor the place for those thoughts. But she was sexy and she did arouse him, just by standing there. He said nothing, just watched her.

Samantha chewed on the inside of her lip silently, still thinking, though her thoughts drifted in rather random patterns.
She thought about how cold it was. Too cold for her liking, she liked to be warm. She thought about her parents, long dead. She thought about being alone. Alone. Even the word alone sounded sad and quiet. She shifted her weight unconsciously, tilting her head to the side. As she moved, she could feel the pull of the sheaths that held her weapons.
Of course she was armed. You couldn`t be a supernatural assassin and not always be armed. The non-human tended to be a little touchy about others killing the creatures they liked. Sam regretted killing the innocent ones, though. She didn`t dislike the different species, it was just her job to. she even had a were friend. She was, of course, also part of the organization.
The wind shifted uncomfortably and Death moved her head to the side again and opened her eyes, glaring at the invisible air. She scowled, her rosy lips turning to a frown.
That was when she saw him. He was just standing there. Much like she had been seconds ago. He looked somewhat relaxed, if not at home. Her eyes locked on the man`s, showing nothing except curiosity. When you killed people for a living, it was best not to show it right away.

Although she simply stood there, David could tell there was something different about this human. The way she had caught on to his presence so quickly. It was unusual, even slightly unnerving. She didn't say anything to him, just watched him like he was watching her.
There was a long silent moment where his eyes never left hers before he finally spoke. "Hey."
Casual, easy, not at all threatening. Well, he wasn't planning on hurting the girl. And besides, conversation had never been David's strong suit.
"Kinda cold today." Duuuuh. David kept it from the outside, but instantly he felt like an idiot. Talking about the weather? Weather? What the hell was wrong with him? Idiot!
Well, to be fair, David hadn't exactly been prepared to make conversation with anyone today. Plus she was pretty. But it wasn't the second that made David fumble his words. There was this air about her. Different from the confidence most women let off. It was a little strange.

Samantha slowly smiled as the man greeted her.
"Hey," She repeated, tilting her head to the side slightly. She smiled sweetly, the perfect image of a curious woman. She did have more confidence in herself than most people, though. Much more. It was something that was mandatory in her line of work. She had to know that she could protect herself.
"Yeah, it is pretty cold." She snuggled down into her heavy coat and lowered her eyes to the ground. She didn`t like the cold. It limited her mobility, made her slower. She didn`t like that. Plus it was difficult to stay warm and still have access to her weapons. She waited for the guy to say something else, knowing he probably would. Not many people were out in the middle of a forest in the middle of winter. He was probably a were. Most likely. She would have to be careful, at least moreso than with a human.

David watched her silently for another moment, weighing his words more carefully now. He had to be careful. Just because the girl was pretty didn't mean that she wasn't dangerous.
"I'm David Josdoff." He smiled slightly. His last name was human. It helped being adopted. His eyes met hers again, he wasn't going to ask her name. She'd have to tell it of her own accord or not at all. And David could live with either. He didn't ask for anything if he could help it.
Self-sufficiency was important in these times. Not that he needed it. He always had his pack. And always had his best friend Luke. No matter what. That's how wolves were. It didn't matter how much you disagreed inside the pack. When another one needed you, everyone helped. It was even closer than a family.

Sam smiled sweetly, her blue-grey eyes sparkling in the sharp light. "Samantha Kave." She replied. She hoped that he wouldn`t be offended if she didn`t shake his hand. Some of the older ones could be touchy about those things.
She also didn`t have to worry about people finding out what her real proffession was. The government had taken care of everything, and they couldn`t have their little assassins being Googled, now could they? Everything about Death was held by her superiors. Everything else had been erased. She couldn`t be looked up. She was in no records. She almost didn`t exsist.
She wondered what questions to ask this man-- David. He was a were, she got that. Who else would be crazy enough to be in the middle of the forest this time of year? She didn`t have anything against weres, except the ones that killed humans. If they had a clean record, she actually liked them. She needed to get to know someone, after all. Right? No one should be only. Even a killer.

"Samantha." David smiled slightly, "My dad used to have a dog he called Samantha. Friendly golden retriever."
He shrugged, surprised at himself. He usually didn't bring up his childhood around anyone, except maybe Luke. And that was only because Luke had been there and was his best friend. They didn't often speak about things that might show emotion, they were boys after all.
"Unfortunately, Dad had to get rid of her when we moved to the city." David flashed a smile, suddenly feeling like he was 10 years old again. He had loved that dog, she was protective and caring and when they moved into the city he had felt like he needed her more than ever.

Sam nodded. Great, I`m being compared to a dog. How ironic. She thought to herself, trying not to roll her eyes. She smiled and nodded.
"Actually, I prefer Sam." She said, pulling her hand from her warm pocket to brush her hair out of her face. "I used to have a beagle, but we moved around a lot, so it was hard to keep him." It was partially true. She had to get rid of the old dog when she became a killer by trade. It wasn`t easy to take care of an animal when you weren`t home at regular times.
She wondered why she was talking to David. He probaly wanted his privacy out in the middle of nowhere. But he had come to her, not the other way around. Did he want something from her? She didn`t know, but she wanted to. Of course, not all weres were bad. Some of them really enjoyed the company of others and having real friends. Would David turn out to be a decent guy?
Sam wiggled her toes and bounced up and down slightly, trying to get warm. God, I hate cold.

David watched her bounce on her feet and a startling realization hit him. She was cold. Well, duh. It was cold out. In fact, now that he considered it, he could see his breath in the air. He was used to the cold, it came with being a wolf. But she, she was human, and a petite one at that.
Well, he'd only been planning on running. "Listen," He started, wondering if she would think him some kind of creep, "would you like to go somewhere warmer? It is rather cold out here."

Sam smiled, her blue-grey eyes seeming to glow in the winter light. She was cold, and she hated it. Cold was evil, and she would much rather be hot than to be cold. Being cold made everything harder. But he had offered to take her somewhere warmer. He was being nice, which could just be the way he was, but he could want something in return.
"On two conditions," She said. "One, you tell me what you`re doing here, the truth, and where we`re going." Somehow she managed to look perfectly cute and harmless while being dead serious. She knew so much better than to agree to go anywhere with a were, especially one she didn`t know. She had, of course, killed most of the beasts she had come into contact with, but that didn`t mean she didn`t like some of them.

David shrugged innocently, "I come out into the woods often, it's good exercise." That was as close to the truth as she was going to get out of him. He meant her no harm and he tried to show her that with his body language. He liked girls, especially pretty girls, and he never mean them any harm.
"As the where we are going, it's up to you. Personally, I'd like to go get a drink." He smiled, his hands up in the air in an innocent motion of carelessness.

Samantha looked at David for a moment. He seemed nice enough; maybe he was just wanted out of the cold like she did. There was no threat coming from him.
Sam pulled her hands out of her pockets and rubbed her hands together. She wasn`t wearing gloves or mittens-- they made it hard to shoot and easy to drop knives or stakes-- and her hands were freezing. Her fingers felt like ice and didn`t move so nimbly. If David became forcefull or whatever, he would have a much greater chance of harming her. Out here she was almost defenseless. -Guess it wasn`t the smartest idea to come out here by myself.-
"Oh, what the hell. I`m cold, and a drink sounds amazing. I don`t care where we go as long as they have heat." She motioned for David to follow her as she turned and started off towards the parking lot where her car was.
"There`s a small cafe place just off the highway that has great hot chocolate," she suggested, turning her body slightly towards his as she walked.

"There`s a small cafe place just off the highway that has great hot chocolate," He had been thinking a bit stronger than hot chocolate, but this was her show and he made no objections. He just smiled and nodded, following as close as he dared. She reminded him of a rabbit. On edge and ready to sprint if she felt any danger. He had no inclination of any such danger. "Mind if I ride with you? I didn't drive out."
He'd ran, enjoying the way the long miles had made his four legs stretch and burn. he had planned to walk back later that night after a long day of running in the woods, but if he could get the girl to take him even halfway back to St. Luthor, he could save lots of time. Maybe go visit his mother.

Samantha nodded and smiled sweetly, her eyes scanning his face quickly before she looked back at the ground. She had figured that he didn`t drive out. He most likely ran the whole way, but she was glad to give him a ride.
"No problem. It`s a nice place, not to far from her. they`ve got a deck out back where you can look out into the forest, but I`d prefer to sit inside, if that`s alright," she said as she lifted her eyes to his again.
She found herself relaxing a little, not nearly as tense. David seemed nice enough. She had suggested the cafe because she knew the place well, and the humans who owned it. Shifters and Fallen went through often, but it wasn`t a place weres went to a lot. Samantha figured it would be a little safer-- she was still weary about David, she had seen to much not to be.
"They have other stuff to drink, too. Beer and wine," she added after a moment. She had a feeling that the drink he had in mind wasn`t hot chocolate.
