Even though it was barely past nine in the morning, Xaver was already exhausted. He had been up most of the night dealing with Kylie - his little sister had been literally shot out of the sky less than three days ago and was still reeling from the effects. Mentally she was a wreck and physically she was still in pretty bad shape. Her black wings were bandaged behind her and though the bleeding had stemmed, the wounds were deep and had much to heal. It didn’t help that she kept fretting and breaking his heart with every painful sob. He hadn’t slept for the greater part of the three days, getting in only hours here and there while helping her out and around and minding his civil and business-oriented duties on the side.
He had left only on her wishes, really. She was healing well, despite it all, and beginning to come back into her own, and for the first time in a while wanted a little time to herself. Upon promise she’d contact him with any needs, he’d left for the office at around five. Quarter past nine now in the morning, he jutted a hand through his thick raven hair and wondered if it had been such a great idea after all. He had gotten loads done, but was far too dead on his feet to be very detailed or calm. Those throughout the business tower, so used to the Fallen lord’s calm graces, had been wide-eyed and deliberately avoiding him and his short temper the entire morning. That temper flared in his chest when a soft rap on the door to his office sounded.
Xaver looked up from where he had been leaning on the edge of his mahogany desk, across the modernly decorated room to the tinny secretary who had interrupted his thoughts. She looked slightly frightened, and his heart stirred in sheepishness, the corner of his handsome mouth pinching slightly. He didn’t mean to intimidate her, though he realized he’d been doing just that - which is why he needed a new secretary; one that didn’t cower at the first fucking sight of frustration, for fuck’s sake.
His tall, muscular frame uncurled from the slight slouch he had been leaning at as he rose from the desk, tired eyes moving past the little aid and flickering slightly in surprise when they landed on who stood next to her. He had completely forgotten that he’d invited Ginny to the office that day to learn the ropes to be his new helping hand (singular, no pun intended, if the sling her arm was still in was anything to go by). He was dressed in black slacks and a light blue shirt that was fitted, but with sleeves rolled up to his elbows and unbuttoned at the top, his tie and jacket haphazardly slung on the chair behind the desk. There were wrinkles in his pockets and his collar was as askew as his obsidian hair, his look handsome but uncharacteristically disheveled.
Setting the fine stack of papers he had been reading onto the desk with a dismissive air, a small smile tilted his lips. The first anyone had seen that day. He could almost hear the small woman beside Ginny sigh in relief.
"Good morning, Ginny."
His tones carried their familiar, foreign lilt, though they were slightly hoarse and strewn with weariness that was not befitting his usual self.

"I'm here to see Xaver Xian." Ginny had said that to the first person she;d seen downstairs, and had been passed from floor to floor until she walked into his antechamber and spoke to the tiny secretary there. The secretary had seemed anxious, but Ginny ignored it.
They walked into Xaver's office and she felt something do flips in her chest. Was this her heart?
"Good morning." She answered with a smile.
She was dressed in a not quite knee-length black skirt and a white blouse, unbuttoned part way to show off a pink tank beneath. Her arm was still in it's black sling, healing from her last run in with Larus. She radiated happiness, though.
She watched as the secretary backed out of the room and waited till the door was closed before letting out her breath, blowing a piece of hair out of her eyes. "She's a little jumpy, isn't she?"
Ginny nodded towards the closed door, shaking her head slightly. She knew how it felt to be intimidated by someone. Yet, she saw no reason for that woman to fear Xaver.
She smiled softly, "So what should I do?"

"Irritatingly so."
It came out almost as a growl, and he smiled offhandedly to ward off the chill of his words. His voice was gruff even to his own ears, a sure reminder that he needed to wade well away from the prying eyes and gentle sensibilities of those such as his secretary this day.
Ginny didn't seemed to be fazed in the least - something which Xaver both liked and needed at the moment. He wasn't trying to be an asshole, after all - he was just tired and people were being fucking stupid.
The thought brought a bubble of an almost delirious, low chuckle to his throat and he shook his head. The door shut behind the woman, and Xaver stepped back slightly so that his butt touched the edge of the desk again.
"First things first, come here.."
A wolfish grin split his mouth beneath his five o'clock shadow, and he opened his arms to her. Beckoning her forth into them.
"I'm glad to see you are feeling a bit better."

He beckoned her, his arms open and without even thinking she stepped forward into them. Her free arm slid up around his neck, and she gently pressed her body against his. It would be a shame to deny the magnetism between them.
With him she felt like the sexiest woman in the world, her confidence skyrocketed. She felt capable of anything.
Which is why she felt confident enough to smile suggestively and lean up on her toes to kiss him full on the lips. She lingered there for a moment, her eyes closed, just enjoying the tingle that went through her body.
She pulled back, her free hand moving from behind his head to his cheek, then to his chest. She could feel his heartbeat reverberating through his chest. It matched her own fluttering pulse.
"So, Mr. Xian. What else do you need me to do today?"

He let out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding when she pressed herself into him, nuzzling his face into her hair and kissing her back when she lifted her lips to his own. She tasted sweet and warm and familiar in a way that comforted his soul in a manner he had never though possible. In ways he wasn't yet ready to understand.
When she withdrew he looped his arms loosely around her waist, careful of her slung arm, his heart beating heavily under her hand.
"That little secretary is whom you are replacing."
Xaver smiled slightly, the warmth of it chasing away the grouchy haunts in his gaze but having little effect on the tired lines that ran rampant over his features today.
"Just a few things, here and there.. And you'll be so much more fun to look at."

"Wait.."
Ginny backed up a step, her eyes searching Xaver's face.
"That poor woman isn't getting fired, is she?"
She didn't want a job if it meant firing someone else. The woman was skitish and jumpy, but that wasn't exactly a reason to fire the poor girl.
Her brow furrowed. Ginny was a thief, but she had a heart.

Xaver shook his head, finding the look of concern writing itself across Ginny's features quite endearing. She was a very affectionate woman, he'd gathered, though she didn't seem to think of herself as such.
"No. Hers was a temporary position until you came in, and she will only be moving into another office."
He shrugged a shoulder, leaving it at that. Truth was, the woman had irritated him and he was glad to see the back of her. He'd borrowed her services from the records department when his former secretary had been caught embezzling.
It would be nice, he had no doubt, to have Ginny around. Not only did he want to help her but he wanted her company. In any case, he would hardly be working her to the bone.

Ginny visibly relaxed, her smile popping back into place.
"Good."
She met his eyes and playfully touched his cheek. "How about you show me around then, Mr. Xian?"
She did need a tour of the basics. She'd never been in this building before, and generally didn't even come on this side of town. She'd never had a real job before. She was excited.

Her smile returned with such quickness that a grin tugged at the corners of his mouth despite his measures of self-control. He rose from the desk, gently withdrawing from her closeness and the hand on his cheek that brought altogether too many stirring emotions, offering his arm to her good side.
“Of course, my lady.”
Xaver passed Ginny a wink and a smile that could swivel the panties off a nun before placing his hand over hers and escorting her out of his office.
The tour was quick and fairly simple – he showed her around, and introduced her to a few key members that coexisted in the tower. His tower, though that part was left out. In the end, he led her back toward his office where just outside her desk was, newly cleaned of the other woman’s things and spread with a steaming, freshly prepared lunch. The tour had taken long enough to push them into luncheon hours.
Xaver smiled at the sight, the weariness he felt so deeply in his bones forgotten momentarily, eying Ginny.

Ginny worked hard to memorize where she was and who she met during the tour. There wasn't too many people, but enough that she found herself still repeating names in her head as they got back to just outside of Xaver's office. She spied the food and raised an eyebrow, "They feed you?"
She had never considered lunch. In fact, she had been in such a rush to get here this morning, she had forgotten breakfast as well. She saw the food and felt her hunger spring up. She hadn't been eating well, lately. Well, she never really ate well, usually just junk food if she did eat. She was lucky she had a great metabolism and was still active, or she'd weigh twice as much.
If Ginny's arm hadn't been in a sling, she would have clapped her hands from excitement.

"I thought I'd best start paying for those waffles of yours," Xaver said beneath a sly grin.
He left it at that, withdrawing his arm from hers and gently brushing his fingers against her spine, urging her foreword. It was all for her, anyway.
He hadn't known what to choose so he'd simply had someone fetch a little bit of everything from a nearby upscale deli and bistro. What was the point of being a multibillionaire, anyway, if you couldn't splurge sometimes?
Xaver moved around Ginny and grabbed a steaming half of a meaty sandwich and a mug of coffee, taking a sip as he slipped into his office for a moment.

Ginny grabbed herself a cup of coffee as well, standing at the edge of the desk and looking over the food. It all looked delicious, and was definitely not from one if the sandwich shops from downtown. No, these were laid out, elegantly placed to look as appetizing as possible.
Ginny glanced at Xaver's office door, wondering briefly if this'd was the kind of lunch all his secretaries got, or if she was getting special treatment. Either way, the food looked delicious.
She picked up a sandwich and sat down at what was now her desk. She looked around the room, wondering if she was going to be able to pull this off. The job didn't seem like it was going to be too hard, but she also wondered where this was going to go between her and Xaver.

As soon as Xaver stepped into his office the phone rang, a low strumming that disrupted the high-rise peace of the dimly lit room. He grimaced, downing a gulp of coffee and dropping his butt into his plush chair as he picked up the phone and brought it to his ear, mashing it between his shoulder and ear as he said, no less than curtly, "Xaver speaking." "Xav? It's Kylie..."
Hips larger than Texas dropped onto the corner of Ginny's desk as soon as Xaver had rounded the corner, cherry red lips stretched over a wide smile as the woman's fat, short fingers plucked a cold sandwich from the desk. "Hey, there, new girl!" she all but cooed. Navy satin stretched as she crossed her legs, taking large bite out of her lunch. She eyed the new red head with an inquisitive, probing, and non-judging green gaze.
A few eyes careened around office cubicles to get a look at the pretty new secretary seated in front of the CEO's office, but most remained fixated on their work, uninterested.

Ginny had just taken a bite of a sandwich when the woman made the desk her perch. Ginny chewed slowly, sizing up the woman amd trying to determine her motive. She took a swallow and nodded politely.
"Hi."
Ginny took notice of which heads turned and which didn't. She stored that away in the back of her mind to think about later. Currently, she had a large and somewhat inquisitive woman to focus on.

The woman chewed on her sandwich quietly and eyed Ginny with an unashamed curiosity. She swung the low-heeled foot of her crossed leg to and fro, settling her rump comfortably on the edge of the desk. Her eyes flickered over Ginny's slug arm, an eyebrow arching slightly. Swallowing, she said in a low voice, "Not often Mr. Xian brings in new hires himself, you know. What's your story?"
She tipped her head as she said it, leaning to the side so she could peek into Xaver's office. Seemingly satisfied at what she saw, even though she raised both penciled-in eyebrows at it, she nestled in and turned more fully to face Ginny. The office staff were not used to the quick temper Xaver had donned this day, and even the office gossip was wary of stirring things that related to her boss. Not too wary, if the smile that stretched her thin lips was anything to go by, but even so, she kept her back to Xaver's door and her voice an octave lower. He was settled behind his desk, bent over his phone and obviously in an important call. Miss gossip figured she had a good ten minutes to pry some information from the waif-thin new girl in that time.
"You're already an improvement from the old secretary, anyway!"
