"Who doesn't? Is your work really stressful?" He inquired genuinely. Alex inwardly cringed stressful work? What work wasn't stressful? Well, the few jobs he'd had hadn't been too bad, then again, he had much more stressful things to worry about, like hiding his identity most is life, until recently faking records, qualifications, the whole shebang, just to live his life. Now of course it was a bit different and he was himself, even had a real passport and all, okay so it labeled him basically as a freak to be treated with caution but it was his, and real.
"Yeah, he's pretty big, but then again I'm not the smallest guy, anything to small and I'd trip on it or something and break it..." He said with a little smile. His first dog had been a jack russell, and after his first growth spurt, well they'd learned to walked a little further apart after the fifth set of stitches. "I've always had dogs, since I was a little kid, I don't think I could go long without one, they remind me of being at home."
He looked at the car with a raised eyebrow and a low whistle. "Nice car..." He sat down in the passenger seat. He looked round the interior a bit. "So this job, nothing you wanna hook me up with?" he said jokingly. "By the looks of things I could an apartment without holes, or leaks, maybe some proper plumbing?" He laughed lightly. "And a sweet car." He smiled to her suggestion of a better coffee. "I'll warn you though, I'm hooked on the stuff."

Sam was silent for a couple long seconds. Her job was a topic she had to be carefull about. She had multiple IDs and a bunch of other things that the most working Americans could only dream of. Her job wasn`t exactly stressfull; dangerous, life-threatening, tenuous, and sometimes a major headache, but she loved it all the same.
"I love my job, I really do. It can get stressfull, but most jobs can. I work for the government, in case you were wondering. Sort of a PI, so you better not be a major criminal," she paused to smirk at Alex, "It pays well." She nodded and looked back to the road. She didn`t have a problem lying, and especially not about her job. Her cover-up job was a private investigator for the feds. No one usually questioned that.
"You`re lucky you`ve always had a dog. They seem really nice. And.... here we are." She had pulled into a strip mall then in front of a cafe-like business. "I swear, these guys must grow their own beans, or something." Sam turned the car off and got out. The wind had picked up a little, and she shivered in her thick coat.

"Well I can imagine some posh government PI job would come with a worthwhile paycheck..." He smiled relaxedly, jobs, money, and things weren't so important to him, he could sit and cry about not investing in Microsoft and hitting it big, but really he's happy where he is, it's less complicated to choose wether he wants his 'true' identity revealed. Stuff money, gold, glitz and glamour, give him a good party, surrounded by beautiful people, give him a quiet night with a beer and a few good friends. He'd never want to be tied down with responsibilities beyond friends, family and fun.
Not that he would mind a good job, just couldn't strive for ordinary, when he could just go live however he wants. "Yeah it was nice always having someone there when I needed them growing up, even if they weren't human..." He laughed nervously. "Not that I overly rely on my dog to manage my life..."
He smiled looking out the window. "Looks nice..." He unfolded himself from the car, pulling his collar up against the cold, but was otherwise unaffected by it. He found little point on dwelling on little discomforts, it could always be worst, and someone else likely had it worse. He grimaced thinking of cold nights in trenches, of waking up beside a road one time in snow, and the worst hang over ever, or that one time when he was twelve and his brothers and him flew four hours away to camp, and had to fly back in their boxers, soaking wet after a rainstorm and falling in a river.. that was cold. He smiled to himself, offering her his arm. "Shall we?"

She smiled as she saw him offer his arm. It was an old fashioned and sweet movement. -Wonder how old. It`s not like I can just ask.-
"Thank you, sir. Now let me introduce you to a lesser-known yet better quality coffee than Starbucks." She led him towards the door. When they reached it she made sure to open the door for him, sweeping her arm forward as she did so.
"An ond shifter couple owns this place. I hope you don`t mind or anything." She said, turning towards him with an open face. It was what any open-minded human would say. Sam wondered how he would reply. He could just say "Oh no, it`s fine, I`m a Fallen," but she doubted that he would. The immortals were awefully catious, but they had a right to be. Everything would be a lot easier if there wasn`t any prejudice towards the immortals, but humans were humans after all.

He laughed as she said her opening piece and swept the door open. "Well I hope it lives up to all expectations..." He said jokingly appraising the place, making a sucking noise as he walked. "No identical to anywhere else in the world decor..." He laughed to her.
He frowned at her question. "No, no problem..." He said with a sigh and an air of confusion. "I can't understand anyone who would have a problem. It... boggles my mind... if no one ever said you would never notice the difference." He said happily, smiling to a few of the current patrons and the barista as they walked in.

"I didn`t figure you`d have an issue with it, but I felt like I should ask. You seem pretty open-minded. You`d be surprised how many people don`t come here because they`re shifters," Sam replied evenly as she looked around. The place wasn`t too big-- about the same size as any other coffee shop-- and had similar decor, despite what Alex had said. There were small round tables evenly spaced over a woord floor. The walls were painted chocolate brown, but you didn`t see much of it. Two out of the three main walls were plastered with stickers and coffee labels.
With a tiny smile Samantha went up to the counter and absently brushed her figners through the ends of her blonde hair. "Frankly I`m glad you don`t have anything against the immortals. Not only would you want to leave, but I would want to sit and have a conversationg with you." She smiled again at the man, glad they had run into each other.
A thin woman behind the counter looked up as she approached and smiled. "Hello, what can I get you two today?" She asked sweetly, looking between Sam and Alexander.
"I`d like a Caramel Mocha please," she replied easily without needing to scan the menu overhead. "And whatever he wants. I`ll buy." Her last sentence was directed to the Fallen next to her as a statement. It had been her idea to come here, so she was going to buy. God knew she didn`t have anyone else to spend money on.

He smiled to her. "Well, it wouldn't surprise me. Everyone has something different about them, just some people are more different then others." he said easily. Face twisted a little at the thought of other's who couldn't except things different to them, from immortality to race, sex and sexuality. He suffered from two of those discriminations and found it hard to believe that people could survive with so much hate in their hearts. He'd been raised to believe that all living (and un-dead) things were equal, and had feelings and families just like him. There fore, if he couldn't except them, then he shouldn't except himself.
Laughing as she said about if he'd have wanted to leave, and her want for conversation. "Well I'm up for the conversation."
He looked at her as she offered to pay. "You're sure? I'll buy next time." He offered sincerely. He wasn't exactly rolling in cash, but he always found enough to buy a drink or something for a friend. He smiled nicely to the thin lady, internally trying to guess her shifted form, but it didn't show on his face as he surveyed the menu. "Just some tea please." He smiled to her.

A smile spread across Samantha`s face and she watched Alex while the woman turned and got their orders. When they got them she nodded her head towards an empty table in a corner. She took the seat where the two walls met, wanting to look around. Old habits die hard, and she was still an assassin.
"You know, I`m glad I ran into you today. Running into a person is always better than slipping on on ice, first of all, but you seem really nice. I`ve been here a while, but it`s hard to find good people in big cities like this," she said after she took a sip of her coffee. She tilted her head a little to the side, letting her fall across her shoulder. Alex really did seem like an honest guy.

He smiled to her. "Well slipping on ice is never fun, and meeting new people is always more fun then grievous injury in my experience." He sipped his drink after blowing it, black tea with a bit of sugar? Perfect to warm you up. And fill you up if you replacing meals. He'd noticed her choice of seating, but made no comment, that fit with him fine, he liked being able to see the room, but hoped, if however unlikely it was, trouble was to arrive, his new friend would alert him.
"So, seeing as we're getting along so well, and nice people are so rare maybe we should hang out again some time?" He said with a smile, if she agreed, well then he'd tell her. He was an honest guy, and liked everyone he befriended these days to know what he was from the get go. It saved heart break and arguments later. She seemed open minded, but sometimes, people were open minded to strangers, but not their own friends and family. He found that most heartbreaking.
"Cities suck the happy out of some people, they just get swallowed up in the anonymity of it all and forget that everyone else has feelings too, even if they are just part of a crowd I think." He said with a little laugh. "I think a lot of people would have swung for me or shouted if I'd walked into them... or ran away..." He smiled to her, being 6'2" made some people a little more cautious about being ill mannered, but most were unaffected by it.

-He wants to see me again? Huh, well, I guess he makes one friend,- Samantha thought to herself. Her job hadn`t left room for making friends in the past two years, not until this winter. The supernatural violence was almost nonexistant, and she had even been asked to take care of a human problem. When she finally had time to be social, she discovered that she didn`t know how. With her new defensive/offensive mentality, she found it was more difficult to pick out the honest people. When you were in charge of taking care of the bad things, you didn`t get to see a lot of good ones.
"You know, I would like to see you again," she replied. "You seem interesting." At that she gave him a little wink, teasing.
Sam couldn`t help but wonder what he saw in her, why he had decided she was good enough to befriend. Of course, he didn`t know what she really did for a living, though a PI wasn`t exactly too far off. He hardly knew anything about her-- almost nothing, really.
"And you`re right. I guess people think that the city is big and there are a lot of other people, and somebody has to be nice, so they don`t have to be." She shook her head back and forth, scanning the room quickly. "It would be really nice if people could just realize that they are responsible for their own actions, and they stand out if they don`t."

He slowly sucked in a deep breath, smiling to her lopsidedly, she seemed pretty open about the whole thing anyway. "Yeah, I'm more interesting then most.." He said jokingly, before releasing the big guns. There was never really any good way to say this. "I won't lie to you though. I am an immortal, Fallen to be exact." He said with a weak smile looking down into his tea, waiting for her reaction good or bad.
He refused be overly effected by it, telling himself sternly that by getting it over and done with, it was out of the way. It saved hurt later on, though sometimes hurt in the now. Being rejected for who you are never hurts any less in his experience. "Is that gonna be a problem with us being friends?" He said awkwardly.

A huge grin spread across her face as he started talking then looked down at his tea. -Ah, if he only knew everything.- She ran her figners through his hair, thinking of how to phrase her response.
"Is that gonna be a problem with us being friends?"
Samantha couldn`t help herself, she giggled. Actually giggled. "I`m sorry!" She said quickly, "It`s just that, well, you totally sounded like a little kid asking to be friends with a girl in first third grade." She pressed her lips together to keep a ridiculous smile from flashing across her face.
"And I know you`re Fallen, Alex. I work for the government, remember? We`re all trained. You told me you liked the cold, you melted in the heat. I put it together, but I wasn`t a hundred percent sure." Now she did smile. Her grin made her look like a little girl who just recieved a puppy. "It won`t be a problem at all."

He smiled at her, poking his tongue out. "Well sorry, next time I'll just swoop down on you when we meet up and carry you to where we're going.. you know, avoid asking third grader questions." He laughed jokingly to her. He considered her for a moment as she explained about knowing and the government job giving her the tells.
He shrugged to her, taking another sip of tea. "I don't hide who I am. Sure I tell people when I start to get to know them, and don't shout it from the roof tops, but I haven't hidden for about seventeen years now." He smiled to her. "Some people will ignore the truth until directly presented with it though, which works well for me." His face twisted a little as he continued to talk. "And government employee or not, some people don't react well when directly presented with it. So I air on the side of caution. Only so many times people can stomp on a 'freak's' feelings before it starts to hurt." He shrugged weakly, trying to explain his manner of presenting the information to her.
He swirled his stirrer round his cup briefly before looking up at her with a blinding smile. "As that's not a problem, and I need to defend my manliness from being compared to a child again, fancy hitting a bar or two up tonight?" He looked around like it was a big secret. "So far, I've been bored shitless in this town..." He winked to her with a laugh.

Sam listened closely as he explained why he had gone about the way he had, although he really didn`t need to. She got it, she understood why some immortals had decided to remain unknown. There was no thought in her mind that said immortals were wrong and bad, but that didn`t mean they could go out and hurt innocent people just because they got furry sometimes or had the thirst for blood.
"I`m not saying that you should have just bumped into me and said 'hey, look out, I`m Fallen,' I get why you wouldn`t do that. I guess it would have just felt weird to have you think that you let me believe you were human. And a lot of the people I work with don`t think the same way I do; most believe that the immortals are hellish creatures. I was just raised to be more open minded." She spoke quickly and softly, not wanting the people around them to know the content of their conversation. For some reason she wanted to give him a hug, or at least assure him that not everybody was a mindlesss idiot. "I`m sorry that you`ve been hurt so much by people who can`t except reality. I would never wish something like that on anyone."
She looked down at her drink, feeling guilty. Her fellow workers weren`t so kind as she was, even though she was considered to be in the top three assassins in the country. The one planted in California, for example, had killed every immortal in his local area, even the nice ones. Remembering that made Sam sad; some of them could be really nice. Alex was a great example of that.
"I can`t believe you haven`t done anything fun yet," she added, starting towards a lighter topic, "That`s what cities are for, to have fun." She really couldn`t help but smile now. "It would be awesome to go to a bar with a friend instead of with an assignment."

He smiled softly her as she mentioned hellish creatures, with a little laugh. "You get used to it. In ways we were better hidden, at least then we weren't openly hunted..." he looked round. "And in certain areas of the world, you don't need to worry about being hellish, its being angelic which gets you stalked en mass." He said with a knowing wink and a little laugh. "Me and my brother had an incident in Spain once upon a time.."
"It would be nice just to have everyone being who they are, but then again thats half the problem, our hate is part of us. Though, I'd never want to be different from what I am, monster or not. Wouldn't change my life for the world in fact" He'd heard horror stories and seen worse to ever feel comfortable just being who he was, world over someone always found a problem with you, a reason to hate or discriminate, without adding being an Immortal into the mix. "Open minded is good. But if you have any questions, I'm happy to ask, most people are curious about us. I'm glad you were raised that way, I have never understood how people, humans and immortals can survive with so much hate in their hearts.."
He grinned broadly. "I know right? I feel like I'm acting like a really old man, just sitting at home with my dog, saying maybe tomorrow night... I always love things when I'm there, but not knowing anyone is intimating." He laughed brightly, easily changing moods with conversation. "Sounds awesome all over, and I'm buying, until I run out of money at least. As you have so graciously been kind after I nearly ran you down." He smiled brightly finishing his tea.
