Spring was getting closer. The air was cold and it still snowed sometimes, although it never stuck. Little by little it was getting warmer. Spring. There was that impatient feeling in the air that came from every living thing; spring was coming, but it wasn`t coming fast enough. Everything was grey: the sky, the ground, businesses, and even the people, it seemed.
Samantha Kave was sick of winter. It made everything difficult. The cold made it hard to move, especially her fingers. She couldn`t wear most gloves because it made it too hard to shoot or throw knives. She had to wear a coat outside, obviously, which made it hard to get to her weapons when she needed them. Lucky for her, it had been a slow season. Only one or two kills a months this winter, which was odd. Maybe things were calming down.
Sam was walking on some street, waiting. It seemed that she was too busy or had to much free time lately. She had lived in the city for over two years and hardly knew anybody. Being an assassin made it sort of difficult to make friends, and it sucked away all of your energy. Really, it sort of sucked, but Sam wouldn`t want to be anything else. She was born to be a killer, ironically.
The street she was on was lined with businesses on both sides, and the sidewalk was empty except for a puddle here or there. She just didn`t know what to do. She didn`t know how to be social. It didn`t help that she was in a weird mood; with everything grey and being alone, she felt... lonely. And she just didn`t know how to fix that.

Alex had been wandering for little over 10 minutes, had to hate being new sometimes. He just wanted some good food to eat, maybe a little company. Not much to ask for, well he didn't think so. He turned the corner of the street, shrugging his jacket a little closer and pulling his cigarette's out his jeans's pocket. He didn't pause to light it. No, he'd been smoking for over 80 years thank you very much, and if he couldn't light a cigarette and walk, then well he deserved to hit his head on something. He looked around him at the gloom, stopping and pulling his collar up as he watched the scattered people on the sidewalk. Everyone was hunched up against the cold, seemingly miserable. He smiled, inhaling deeply, Winter, well he liked winter. Cold floorboards, steamy breath, patterns on windows, crisp air, fast air, winter winds you could ride for miles on. Compared to some winter's he'd had, in trenches, in fields, on the streets? Well this was a good winter, life experience put things like the cold in perspective like that.
He ducked his head and continued to walk, thinking of where he might find some company for the day. Couldn't be hard, city full of people right here. Or maybe somewhere secluded to stretch his wings perhaps? He smiled to himself, looking over his shoulder to cross the street and bumping bodily into someone.
"Oh, shit I'm so so sorry..." He said in a rush. Stepping back and flipping his hair out the way.

"What the hel-- oh, gosh, I`m sorry!" Sam said just as the man spoke. She looked up into his face-- he was a lot taller than her, like most people-- and smiled sweetly, taking a step back and straightening her coat with one hand. There was a cut on the inside of her fingers of her other hand; she had been holding the handle of a knife in her pocket. When they bumped into each other her hand slipped and tightened. Oh well, nothing that hadn`t happened before. She could get it bandaged soon enough.
"Um, hi. Sorry, I wasn`t really paying attention." She smiled again, flashing her white teeth, and started to move around him. She felt blood drip from her hand in her pocket and she winced.
-I liked this damn coat.- The cut wasn`t deep, but it stung and bled. She must have nicked a vein or whatever. If she was lucky the guy was human and wouldn`t be able to smell the blood.

He chewed his lip apologetically. "No, it was totally my fault..." he notice his dropped cigarette and twisted his toe on it. "Here let me make it up to you... if your not busy?" He said with an easy smile. He noticed her wince with a frown and chewed his lip again. "Did I hurt you? Shit, I'm so sorry, my building is just around the corner if you need something..." He said weakly, feeling guilty for walking into someone. He had been this size for nearly 100 years now, his mother had told him he'd grow out of taking people out through sheer clumsiness.
"Or at least let me get you a drink or something?" He offered again, Two birds, one stone... good thinking you goon.. She seemed to be in some discomfort, he smiled to her weakly. "Seriously I have painkillers, and a first aid kit, and ice, and coffee and stuff if I hurt you... god I'm sorry..." He said sincerely. 90 years of calm, cool and collected, like always failing him, spastasically. Then of course, walking 6'2, 200 lbs, of fallen into some poor innocent bystander whilst crossing the street didn't exactly meet the criteria.

Samantha turned to face the man and gave a sideways grin. "Seriously, I`m fine." She took her bleeding hand out of her pocket and wiggled her figners. It looked a lot worse than it was, really. A cut on her hand was nothing compared to the wounds she had gotten over the past two years. "I`m not going to bleed to death, it just stings a little," She added, shoving her hands back into her pocket.
Looking up at the guy she couldn`t help but smile once more. He was good-looking and sweet. Sam realized that this was an opportunity to get to know someone besides her boss and her felow state assassins.
"But, uhm, you know what, coffee sounds pretty good right now." Her voice suddenly got softer. -I`ll be damned if I`m blushing- She cleared her throat and blinked quickly a few times, know that would make her seem nervous. Sure, she could trick a werewolf and stab him in the back-- literally-- but she couldn`t talk to some nice man on the street.

He looked at her hand skeptically. "Are you sure, I can run back and get you something to wrap it with...." He said weakly, trying not to look like some kind of creepy pervert only interested in luring her back to his lair. "The ones that sting are the worst, trust me, you can be like gushing blood and barely feel it, but paper cuts? Ouch." He said with a smile.
"Any way, it'll ruin your coat, here" he said in a manner of fact way, smiling softly, bringing a pack of tissues out of his jacket pocket, juggling his keys and lighter out the way as he offered them to her. He smiled as her voice softened with her acceptance. "We can pop into my place, grab you a bandage and some coffee, or get you a bandage and go out for some coffee... up to you."

Sam smiled when she took the little pack of tissues. She got a couple out and quickly dabbed up the drying blood on her hand. The cut had already sealed up.
"Nah, this one wasn`t deep at all. I get cut up a lot with my job. Actually, I have a first aid kit in my car." She handed him the tissues back, having been carefull not to get any blood on them, and put the others in her pocket. "If you want, we can just walk to my car and get coffee, she offered, "My car`s just a couple blocks that way." She nodded off the way she had been walking.
Now she was really curious about this person. He was open and friendly, maybe a little spacey, but nice. He had offered her to go to his house, which was kind of odd, but somehow she knew that he wasn`t going to try anything on her. He hadn`t even asked how she cut her hand-- but that was a good thing of course, what would she say?
"Yeah, I kill immortals who get out of hand, and I carry knives and guns around. I just happened to be holding a very sharp knife when you ran into me."
Yeah, that would sound real nice.

He nodded. "Well at least you're prepared..." he took the tissues back and shoved them in his pocket. Nodding politely as she spoke. He considered her plan for a moment, wasn't like she could leave him in the middle of no where with no way back, after all he could always fly out of a bad situation. "Sure sounds like a plan." He smiled, before gesturing to the floor, and one very crushed, but mostly unsmoked cigarette.
"Mind if I smoke on the way?" He asked relaxedly, not too bothered either way, he could go without, just an old habit that died hard. Some people considered him a bit too open and friendly with strangers, but he figured he'd live a very long, lonely life without his open attitude to things, trust and respect were earned, but good manners, an open view and friendliness? Given's in the Alexander Malachi Anderson rule book. She seemed nice enough, hadn't stabbed him, shouted or threaten to sue him, so far she seemed an okay person. An okay person with sharp things in her pocket, but there was a time he carried sharp things around in his pocket, now he opted for a small knife strapped round his ankle, and prayed for a fast get away, though he could handle himself well enough.

"Sure, go ahead. And I`m Sam Kave." She introduced herself finally, holding out her hand. She liked being formal, well, when it was safe, at least.
Sam started walking back towards her car at a normal pace, keeping an eye on what was in front of her this time. "What brings you out here on this horribly cold day?" She asked. -Great, talking about the weather, are we?-
Carefully she hooked her fingers around the knife that had cut her. She would have to clean it when she got home, but for now it would have to stay hidden. She found the little hole in the bottom of her pocket and shoved the knife into it. She had gone through three coats now, and it was difficult to get a new one that had all the nice little holes and hooks in it that she needed.

He smiled to her, accepting her hand and giving it a firm but gentle handshake. "Alexander Anderson, Alex for short..." He smiled gently. "Nice to meet you Sam." He pulled a cigarette out and lit up, taking a deep drag, feeling all the tension in his muscles drain away with the familiar action. He was a very physical kinda guy, he liked handshakes the first time you meet, half hugs the second time, a body hug the third, and after that you were in bear hug, and being jumped on territory. Other people's lives were too short to waste time with formality.
"Kinda new in town, just out for a wander, exploring a bit..." He said truthfully. "Anyway, I like the cold, it's refreshing." Grinning at her obvious distaste of the cold, feeling quite the opposite to her. Weather chat. Yay Well it wasn't like he could really change the subject to much else right now. Hi, I'm Alex, I'm 113 years old. I'm 6'2", 246 lbs. I'm a Leo, I enjoy long runs in the park, flying, early mornings, sunrises, I'm a world 1 and 2 veteran, oh and I have a 20 ft wingspan... why are you running away?
He laughed inwardly at himself, yeah that would be a great conversation, then considered the fact that he never had actually measured his wingspan, could be a giggle next time he was bored with no where to go. "I don't really do well in heat so, naturally I kinda like the cold." He laughed inhaling the smoke deeply.

Sam smiled, laughing a little. -Likes the cold, huh?- She couldn`t help but mentally grimaced. Alex was so nice and good-looking! He was caring and had a strong handshake. -Maybe he has strong arms. I can`t tell, and it`s not like I could ask. Maybe I could-- SHIT! Hell, I`m desperate.- Samantha almost stopped walking at that thought, but luckily she didn`t. At least her training wasn`t going away as her boredom increased.
"I think the cold makes it hard to move around. Everything`s slippery. It`s just miserable to me," Sam explained. "I`d rather be warm than feel refreshed. But I don`t like it to be too hot, either. I like fall the best," she added quickly. She really didn`t like the weather most of the year. In the spring it was too wet outside. Fall was the only time of year she actually enjoyed.
"What parts of town have you seen, since you`re new? We`ve got some nice places around here." Sam quickly changed the subject. You could have a real conversation about a city. The weather, not so much.

He looked up, considering the whole idea of liking fall. He took a deep drag, blowing it out slowly. "I can understand that. Fall? I like the end of fall, when it cools down.. me and heat, we really don't agree..." He shrugged, "I get like... heat stroke and stuff like most people get colds, come summer I'll be melting so I like winter, not to mention people don't get all sweaty and gross in winter." He smiled, she was pretty when she laughed.
"Well the park a bit, I've got a dog, so I've wandered round a bit, my apartment, the bus station, McDonalds and a Starbucks." He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Kinda sad that, but once I have a job I was going to hit up the local bars. If that makes my current social standing any better..." He smiled with a wink, taking one last drag on the cigarette before dropping it and stepping on it casually. He couldn't see any bins around, and he wasn't about to ditch her to go looking for one.

"We`ve got plenty of bars around here, and they usually have quite a croud." Sam rolled her eyes. The city had a ton of bars, but most of the people in them weren`t very friendly. Like she could talk; she`d spent a lot of her time in those bars, but she hunted people instead of hunting alcohol.
"What kind of dog do you have?" She asked instead of saying something that she`d probably regret. It was obvious to her now that Alex was an immortal-- a Fallen, to be more exact. Heat and summer didn`t bother humans like that, but it could kill Fallen. Of course he would like the winter, and he probably wouldn`t really like the fact that she killed immortals for a living. And most really didn`t stick around for long enough for her to explain that she only killed the bad ones.

He smiled, every city had bars, clubs and pubs, everything was so big and bustling now. His fondest childhood memories were of his brothers and him going to their local. No one cared about age, everyone knew each other, and they didn't drink much, a pint each, and being boys for a night, eyeing up the girls (and boys...) just living it up. Much simpler times, before the wars and the heart break. Since then, well he'd always enjoyed a drink, and a chat, sometimes a dance, a flirt, and more. "Yeah, maybe you could show to a few good ones sometime?"
He smiled as she asked about Beau, he was close to his dog, this was easy conversation territory. "A bull mastiff. His name's Beau, and he's kinda my baby, so if I start rambling on about him at any point, just stop me." He said with an easy smile, she seemed nice enough, but the nicest of humans could turn nasty if they discovered you had some slightly less human characteristics.

Samantha laughed mentally when he hinted at her coming to a bar. "Oh, I get around to some of the nicer places sometimes. My job has me everywhere, but I like to have a drink or two in my free time." She nodded slightly as she spoke. If only he knew...
Amazingly, she didn`t have a problem with immortals. When she was little she made up stories about werewolves and vampires, like all imaginative kids. Who wouldn`t want to think about supernatural creatures that could do cool stuff? When she found out the immortals were real she was actually really interested. As long as they didn`t kill or hurt people, she was just fine with weres needing sex the week of the full moon or vamps drinking blood.
"A bull mastiff? Wow, aren`t those, like, huge?" she asked. "I wish I could get a dog, but I could never keep one with my job and everything. Oh, here`s my car." Sam stopped suddenly. Had they really gone three blocks that quickly? Well, whatever.
She dug out her keys from her pocket, biting her lip as a key dug into the slice on her fingers. She pushed a button on the small keypad and two honks came from a shiny black sports car. It was compact and expensive-looking. That`s because it was. Being an assassin had its perks.
"Come on. There`s other places around here to get coffee than Starbucks," Samantha smiled and got in the driver`s seat. She waited for Alex to get in too before starting the engine. The inside of the car was blood red with black here and there. Sam glanced at Alex from the corner of her eye, wondering how he would react to the car. Guys seemed to like it a lot more than she did.
