"oh! Absolutely!"
Callie almost jumped out of her seat in excitement, but somehow she managed to stay seated. Never of his own accord had Xaver asked her to spend time with him, and especially not to a function of any importance. She gave him a nod.
"I can most definitely accompany you."
She already had the perfect outfit in mind.

He smiled at her over a pull of his drink, and nodded.
"Good. My favorite charity is going to be receiving at the auction during dinner, so I am morally inclined to go.."
He figured it would be her kind of event - dressy, formal, and in his opinion, boring as hell. He wasn't a fan of these types of events, but they were all but required to keep a good name in the community for his businesses and status. If he had to go, he wasn't going to be doing it alone. Another pang of guilt traced through him; he knew he could have, should have, invited Ginny. He liked the girl. A lot, actually... To which some part of him angrily raised head and asserted 'That's why you need to make some distance, you stupid bird'.
"It's going to be in the Bethany Tower, downtown. I guess it has a good view."
The tower was one of the most prestigious, and tickets for the event ran upwards of two thousand dollars. It was water off a duck's back for Xaver's pocket book, but an irritating reminder of the types of people that would be attending. Without meaning to, he had allotted Callie with them.
Xaver smiled over the table at her, more for himself than to express cheerfulness.

"Oh, that sounds like so much fun!"
Callie knew their would be a great number of societies important people, and for her to be seen with Xaver would surely be a good thing. They were an attractive couple, and to Callie, that was an important aspect.
"What charity is it?"

Xaver drew his drink back up to his lips, eyes never falling from Callie's face. Imagining red hair...
"The Lutherian Children's Good-Living and Orphanage Fund."
It was his most recent favorite charity. They actually used the funds for good will and he'd actually been able to see where his money was going. New wings and better health care for the little ones was important to Xaver, and he'd donated quite heavily when he'd seen it go to good use.
"How's the family?"

Callie felt her shoulders shrug,"Alright I suppose. Mother has fallen ill again, from what Father's letter say, but when isn't that woman ill?"
It wasn't that Callie disliked her mother, but she did consider her somewhat weak bodied and spirited. She was a soft woman, though with a great mind.
"How is Kylie?"
She knew Xaver's sister was a soft spot of his.

Xaver nodded, not prying.
"She's well."
He finished his drink, ice chinking against the glass as he returned it to the table.
"Had a little bump in the road on the way here from Lenity, but she's doing fine now, thank you."
(I'm sorry! My muse for these two.. can it be that my muse feels guilty about Ginny? lmao)

((Perfect cure for muse-block? TIME SKIP TO THE FUN STUFF.))
Callie stood in front of her full length mirror in her room. She smoothed down the front of her kiwi-colored cocktail dress. The dress itself had a strap over her right shoulder, and an asymetrical cut to match. It made her blond hair, which had been flat ironed into perfection, seem almost platinum.
With care she looked herself over. She knew she looked stunning, and she knew she would turn every head in the room. But she was interested in impressing only Xaver. Her girl-hood crush had never ended, and she always had kept hope in the back of her mind that he would magically awaken one day to find that he wanted to be with her.
The doorbell rang.

(BAHAHAHA IF ONLY WE COULD DO THAT IN REAL LIFEEEEEEEEEE) He nudged the iced, half gone bottle of chilled champagne with a finely shoed toe, arms folded across his chest as his distaste and discomfort steadily grew. It seemed like only moments before his driver turned his head and announced they had reached Callie's place. Xaver nodded at the smiling giant and pulled the chrome handle of the car and slid out. He had donned a fresh black suit, pressed black shirt with a white overlay and fine stone cufflinks. Raven hair slicked back of his head, his features shone all the more prominently in the mid-evening moonlight. Doing up the button of his jacket over his navel, he ran a hand over his freshly shaved jaw and jogged up the steps to her doorway. Ringing the doorbell, he rocked back onto his heels.

Callie opened the door before he had the chance to ring again, running her eyes appreciatively over Xaver. He had always been known to clean up nice. She was again aware of what a handsome couple they would make at the benefit. She stepped out and took his arms in hers, smiling for what was probably the billionth time that day.
"Hello there, Xaver." She said, her voice low, "Don't you look dashing?"

"Mmm, thank you," he said softly, offering his arm even as she reached to take it, eyes wandering over her form. "You look absolutely delectable."
No matter what the feelings or lack thereof existed, he could always appreciate an attractive body. He led her to the black car sitting idly in the street, gleaming wetly with the rain and sleet that was beginning to drop from the dark skies with a pace that wasn't in the least hurried. He opened the back door for her, waiting until she had slid across the seat before dropping in himself and pulling the door in after him. The driver started off immediately; Xaver reached for the champagne and the two glasses nestled in the mini-bar, handing one to her and popping the cork back out. Once filled, he replaced the bottle and raised his glass to her.
"To you."

"To me, hmm?"
Callie gave him a suggestive smirk, raising her glass.
"To you as well."
She took a nice healthy swallow of her champagne, her eyes never leaving him. She lowered her glass and slid closer to him, placing her free hand on his knee.
"It was quite a surprise to me that you asked me to come with you this evening," she admitted, "but I am rather happy you did."
She gave his knee a squeeze.

Xaver tipped his head to her words, then drank as she did. The bubbly liquid like much of the bottle before it flowed into his belly with ease and left a sweet taste in his mouth, sweeter still as she scooted her body closer to him and moved a small hand onto his knee.
"A surprise, mm?"
He moved his arm to the neck of the seat, draping it lightly around her slender, mostly bare shoulders and easing their figures closer still. She smelled nicely, sweet with a hint of flowers. And so very feminine; it was in his nature to be attuned more sharply to the scents of the females of his species.
She gave his knee a squeeze and hormones that had been so reluctant to rise to the surface came in a heady flood. Emotion was easy to have little to do with it; physicality, even reluctant, was as much part of his soul as flying. He smiled down at her and took another sip.
"I hope one none too shocking," he said, tones low. "We have known each other for so long, Callie, surely accompaniment is not too much a stretch."

"Since we were children."
She agreed, giving him a small nod of her head.
"But you must understand that is exactly why it is so surprising. Since our youth, we have never spent any time together that wasn't arranged by our parents."
Not that she was complaining. It used to be the only way she could lay eyes on him.

Xaver gave a small smile and inclination of his head, not denying it. He could have listed a million reasons to why he'd never hung out with her, probably beginning with that he hadn't wanted to lead her on. The irony didn't escape him that that was probably doing now.
"Well, perhaps it is time again that we are more than estranged friends, mm?"
City lights had flown by the tinted windows and, before his alcohol-calmed thoughts knew it, they were pulling up to the front of the well-decorated tower. He left his glass on the small bar then slid out, offering his hand to her as the other adjusted his silky tie.

Callie took his hand as she slid out of the car, brushing away any wrinkles that might have appeared from sitting in the car. She smiled at him, hooking her arm through his once again.
"After you." She said with a purr.
