"Oh."
Callie paused a moment, she wasn't sure what to say. "Does she have any...friends here? That she could talk to and such?"
She didn't know if friends would help in such a situation or not. She'd never really had close friends to talk about stuff like this with. Callie figited, not sure how to proceed with a conversation about his sister getting shot down.

"Not really," he said, finding his words and tones more candid than usual. "She made friends with the Fallen Sleuth who saved her from the humans, but other than him, I'm it."
Xaver passed her a lopsided smile, sensing her discomfort. "And I don't do girly well. Kylie was nonplussed by the lack of frills in my apartment, I assure you. She's decided to redecorate her 'half of the house'. She's found a project, though, which is more like herself.."
He shrugged his wide shoulders, stepping to the side slightly and lowering himself onto the sand beside her, all calm, athletic motions.

Frilly. Callie could understand that. She flashed him a smile and fluttered her eyelashes.
"Well, at least there's that."
She looked back out over the water, enjoying the comfort of his presence. It was nice having someone she'd know a long time to talk to, even nicer that she had such a thing for him.
"I remember decorating my apartment when I first moved in. It was loads of fun, and turned out really nice."
She side-eyed him,. "Maybe you could come see it sometime?"

Xaver passed her a sidelong glance and a smile, and nodded his head.
"If there's a promise of food I certainly wouldn't mind. And if you wouldn't care, I'm sure Kylie would love to see your place in all its feminine wiles and glory."
He planted his palms on the sand behind him and leaned back onto them, crossing his ankles and letting his wings drape either way behind them across the beach.
"How about Friday?" A glance at the expensive watch on his left wrist told him it was well into the morning of Wednesday, so it wasn't so far off Kylie would explode with anticipation.

She hadn't planned on Kylie coming along, but she hid that well and nodded. "Friday would be perfect."
She looked up, noticing the sky was starting to lighten in one direction, indicating the approaching morning.
"I wonder if anybody missed us at the party." She said lowly, also wondering what those people might have thought. What if it got back to her mom? She'd never hear the end of it. How a guy never wants to marry a girl who will go home with him and blah blah.

Xaver knew she hadn't meant to invite Kylie along, but some part of him couldn't resist. His gut had kept him alive this long, after all. Though he wasn't sure if it was out of the desire to get Kylie out of the house or something else entirely, he was suddenly happy to have something to look foreword to. Kylie's reaction was sure to entertain, if nothing else.
"Friday, then," he said over a smile.
At her question he tilted his head toward the city lights then sighed, rolling foreword onto his feet and shaking the sand off his well-pressed pants. He offered her his hand, his wings beginning to unfold and twitch in anticipation.
"Most definitely." He his his chuckle, but only just. "Shall we, m'lady?"

She took his offered hand, holding onto it longer than she should have before shaking out her own wings.
"I think I can find my way home." She told him, flashing her dazzling white smile. Truth was, she needed some time alone to think about the past evening. He's been distant at the party, and even here, where they'd been physically close, and even talking, he'd still had a wall up.
She needed to figure out how to break down that wall.

Xaver bowed his head slightly. "Good wind to you," he said over a smile. Shaking the last sand pebbles from his feathers, his broad wings stretched and twitched in anticipation. A moment before he pushed from the ground he paused and glanced at her. "Careful out there, Callie," he said quietly. Offering another lopsided grin to twist his mouth from sudden seriousness, Xaver turned his blue gaze toward the skies. One good thrust of his powerful wings and he was again in the arms of the clouds, soaring up, up, until he was shrouded in thunderous mists and starlight.
He dropped by the tower that was hosting the party briefly to grab his discarded clothes and shoes, flying by the great wall of windows as he left and leaving no doubt where he'd gone off to. Being known as a generous donator and philanthropist was one thing, but also having a reputation as hardly being known to stick around at parties even in his honor certainly wasn't a bad thing in his book. Kylie was home waiting anyway, so no matter the draw of over perfumed tittering ladies or gossip circles galore there was no way he'd have been returning that night.
Beams of colorful morning light were streaking themselves across a heavy and clouded morning atmosphere as his large wings spread wide to slow his descent onto his home balcony. His feet touched down with a practiced ease, a hand digging through his pocket as he made soundlessly across the patio, shaking the moisture from his wings. Grabbing out his small ring of keys he flipped to the right one and unlocked the sliding glass door, pushing it and the just within aside, closing both behind him as he entered.
Large wings tucked behind him, he padded across the living room into the kitchen, losing his clothes on the back of a chair and tucking his shoes beneath one on the way. He all but tiptoed across the cool tiles, grabbing a glass from the cupboard and filling it with water from the tap, folding his arms across his bare, sweaty chest and leaning a hip against the marble counter as he let his gaze slip out the window above the sink. His thoughts were quick to follow, and he wasn't sure how long he'd been standing there daydreaming like a fool when he finally noticed her presence.
"Hey, Ky," his low tones murmured, easing gently into the silence. He smiled as he imagined the mouthed curse, and turned to see her half into a tiptoed step. "What are you doing up so early?"
She dropped her bare foot and sighed, shrugging her slender shoulders. She looked a lot like him, with smooth skin, raven black hair, and a strong, stubbornly set jaw. Her blue eyes were bright even in the morning gloom, the sleep yet to be rubbed away at the corners making noticeable her recently roused state even more than the disheveled over-sized tee shirt that hung almost to her knees and dwarfed her petite frame. She looked for all the world healthy, if it wasn't for the large wings behind her, one still heavily bandaged and at odd proper angles. She showed little signs of discomfort this morning, but even as he breathed in the familiar scents of home and family, her pain and fear was still there enough for him to smell.
"I heard the door," she said, shrugging a small shoulder. Her gaze flickered over him. "Did you go flying?" There was an odd mix of worry and jealousy in her tones, as well as an overwhelming sense of relief. "I'm glad you did, I mean," she said quickly, "You've been becoming irritable being all cooped up in here and stuff, anyway, and.." Xaver didn't say anything, a gentle smile on his lips his only response. He let her babble on a bit, finding that he was simply happy that she was here, that she was home with him, and their little family unit was back together. She sighed. "It is morning, though. ...Breakfast?" Kylie waggled her eyebrows, and Xaver laughed. "Pancakes it is then, kiddo," he said over a grin. "Then maybe we can get that wrap on your feathers changed out and see how close you are to joining me in the skies?" She nodded, for the first time with a vigor and excitement that he actually believed since she'd been literally shot out of the sky. She bounced across the last few steps separating them and threw her arms around his neck, hugging him close for a moment before pulling away to turn the light switch on and grab things out of the fridge like a woman on the edge of starvation. Xaver watched for a moment, simply for the amusement of watching a tiny thing begin to prepare a meal even he would be proud of finishing, then grabbed a bowl off one of the higher shelves in the cupboard and began throwing together the pancake mix.
Xaver slouched in his chair and rubbed a hand over his bare belly, groaning over a wide grin. Bare plates and bowls spread before him attested to the fullness of his stomach, and he heard a similar testament across the table as Kylie blew out a breath and pushed away her own plate. "So. Full," she grumbled, sharing his grin and draping a slender arm across the back of her chair. He nodded, chuckling softly and pushing away from the table, rising to his feet and grabbing the nearest plates to carry them to the sink. "Very," he agreed. "So, before I forget, I wanted to ask you.." Xaver paused and turned on the tap, rinsing the dishes off and putting them in the dishwasher before turning back to her. She was rounding up her own dishes, but her blue gaze was fixed on him beneath a furrowed, curious brow. "You remember Callie McDaniel? About this high," he held up a hand to his shoulder, "She's a blonde Fallen?" Kylie simply blinked owlishly at him as she moved to the sink, and he sighed. "Anyway, I'm going over to her place on Friday for dinner as a sort of housewarming, and you're invited too. She's pretty creative and a lot more girly than I am, so I figured you'd like to see what her place looks like since you're trying to fix up your stuff." She raised her eyebrows at him but said nothing, putting her dishes into the dishwasher. "...And I'm sure there is enough pink and frills vomited everywhere to appease even you?"
A grin finally split Kylie's lips and she fell into a fit of laughter, shaking her head and leaning back against the counter. "Sure, Xav," she said, passing him to grab the last few dishes. "I'm sure we can talk about our hair and our tampons, too." He sputtered and playfully swiped at her, and she laughed and dodged his foot. "Seriously, though, that sounds great. I need some input for my room. It does look like.. how did you say? Someone vomited pink on the walls? Yeah." She passed him a warm grin, and Xaver knew suddenly that it had been great intuition to want to bring Kylie after all. "Thanks, Bro." She dumped the rest of the dishes into the dishwasher, poured in some grainy soap, shoved it closed and started it as he washed down the table with a foamy cloth. All but flying back across the kitchen, she tugged on his arm with enough excitement his heart leapt with joy at the sight of it. He'd truly missed the optimism and endless energy of his little sister, and this show of happiness had been long awaited in the past few weeks she'd been recovering. He knew things might never be the same, but every sign that things were returning even somewhat back to normal he latched onto like a dying man. "Help me change my bandages?" she asked, not bothering for an answer before she was tugging on his hand and pulling him toward the living room. Xaver grinned and let her lead him, then helped change the coverings to the still very open wound inflicted by violence spawned from the hate and ignorance of the world.
